Đèn sàn Thomas là lời tri ân dành cho nghệ thuật hoa văn fretwork (hoa văn mắt lưới) Trung Hoa, vốn xuất hiện tại Anh từ đầu thế kỷ 18. Đến giữa thế kỷ này, phong cách đó đã trở thành dấu ấn của đồ nội thất thanh lịch, được thể hiện rõ trong ấn phẩm nổi tiếng năm 1754 của Thomas Chippendale (Anh, 1718–1779) mang tên The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker’s Director.
Nguyên mẫu của cặp chân đèn bằng gỗ gụ (1755–1760) – nguồn cảm hứng cho thiết kế đèn này – đã được giới thiệu trong ấn bản đầu tiên của cuốn sách Chippendale.
The Floor Lamp Thomas is an homage to the intricate Chinese fretwork that first appeared in England in the early 18th century. By the midcentury, it became a hallmark of elegant furniture, as seen in Thomas Chippendale’s (British, 1718–1779) influential 1754 publication, Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker’s Director. The model for the pair of mahogany candlestands (1755–60) that inspired this lamp was featured in the first edition of Chippendale’s book.
